HUBBARD Anthony "Rummy" J. DePaul, 88, of Hubbard, died Tuesday morning, November 16, 2004, at Northside Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1916, in Hubbard, a son of Samuel and Mary Carano DePaul and was a life long Hubbard resident.
Mr. DePaul worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1977 and was also employed by Bell Wick Bowl in Hubbard for 50 years. A member of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, he was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3767, Hubbard, former secretary of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Hubbard branch and former Steward of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Youngstown branch 385.
Rummy was an avid golfer and bowler serving as former secretary of the Owls Club Golf League and a member of North Side Club Golf League for 12 years. He was a former secretary of several bowling leagues including the Kelley-Robb Classic League for 19 years and bowled in this league for 47 years. He was a former director of the Youngstown Men's Bowling Association, co-chairman of the 1973 and 1974 YMBA City Tournaments and chairman of the 1975 YMBA City Tournament. He was a former member of Steel Valley Seniors Bowling Tournament Committee and served as tournament chairman for 5 years. He was elected to the Youngstown Men's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979 and Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001.
His first wife, the former Catherine Clarkson, whom he married September 27, 1937, died August 24, 1989.
He leaves his wife, the former Carmel Vernell Sisco, whom he married December 28, 1990; four sons Donald (Vonnie) DePaul of Tipp City, OH, Darryl (Cynthia) Depaul of Hubbard, David (Donna) DePaul of Cortland, Douglas (Mary Jane) DePaul of Liberty; a stepson, Michael (Mary Ann) Sisco of Fairfield, OH; a stepdaughter, Linda (Dave) Brown of Wilkes-Barre, PA; three sisters, Virginia (Anthony) Balestrino of Conneaut, OH, Mary Louise (George) Petrusko of Hubbard and Helen (Harry) Doughman of Tulsa, OK; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His parents, a brother, Samuel DePaul, and a sister, Caroline Carano, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 9:15 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home, Hubbard and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Hubbard.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
